 Ellie Lawrence

Ellie Lawrence

Job Position: General Production

Hire Date: August 3, 2010

My name Elinor Lawrence and I have been with ECL for almost five years in the South Building as a Production worker. Over the years I have seen immense growth and change. I have been given the opportunity to learn a variety of new jobs like learning to run both the CNC mill and CNC lathe, button presses, welding, torch brazing, stamping presses, and numerous machining jobs in the plant. I enjoy learning new things and I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to grow with the company.

ECL’s growth and success can be attributed to all the dedicated efforts of management and employees and their ability to work together as a team to get the job done. I hope to spend many more years here with Electrical Contacts Limited.

Job Position: IT Co-op Student

Hire Date: May 5th, 2014

I spent May to August, 2014 working at ECL as an IT Co-op Student. This was my first co-op term and the staff at ECL made me feel very comfortable right from the beginning. My first impression was one of a casual but productive atmosphere where both teamwork and communication were highly promoted. This first impression turned out to be quite an accurate description of the company.

During my time at ECL I created various applications for different departments. My projects required me to meet with the entire office staff as well as the production management team on a regular basis. Being a new employee and new in the field, this was very intimidating at the start of my work term but after a short amount of time I began to look forward to these meetings as the attendees were all extremely helpful and provided great feedback.

Although I only had the opportunity to work for the company for a short period of time, I would definitely recommend ECL as a placement to any co-op student, post-graduate or skilled trade.

Job Position: Industrial Mechanic Apprentice

Hire Date: February 7, 2012

I have worked at ECL for a few years now as an industrial mechanic apprentice and I couldn't be happier. All of the employees here are easy to get along with and it’s always a good time. During the few years I've worked here, I've learned skills such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, machining and many more. The skills I have acquired at ECL have helped me throughout my apprenticeship and even everyday situations outside of work. At the end of the day I have met plenty of new people, seen cool new things, made new friends, and am proud to say that I'm part of the ECL team.

Job Position: Materials Science Engineer

Hire Date: March 10, 2014

I was hired at ECL right after finishing my Bachelors of Engineering & Society in Materials Science at McMaster University. I have been able to apply the skills and knowledge I learned working as a product and process engineer at ECL. Some of my roles include process improvement, production support, sample development, research and development, and technical customer support. During my short stay, I have had many opportunities to travel and visit suppliers and customers from which I have gained a much better understanding of the electrical contact business. Working in a fast paced manufacturing environment in the engineering department means never a dull day.

Hire Date: March 24, 1986

I have worked at ECL for 25 years in the tool and die department. I started as an apprentice and worked my way up into a supervisory position. Additionally, I have supported, trained and sponsored countless tool and die apprentices over the years.

My favourite part about working at ECL is being part of a small, family-owned company where change happens quickly. I love the friendly, energetic and team focused culture as  it makes work much more enjoyable.
