Circuit Breakers
Overview
The primary function of a circuit breaker is to interrupt the flow of electricity in a circuit.

There are many ways to do so, but regardless of how a circuit is interrupted, consideration must be given to the potential negative effects of electrical arcing at the point of disruption. Unlike most other contact material types, silver/copper refractories tend to exhibit significantly better arc resistance due to the presence of the refractory in the alloy. Refractories such as tungsten, tungsten carbide, and molybdenum have excellent temperature and wear resistance, making them ideal for use in arcing contacts. This is especially important in applications where the arcing occurs in air, as opposed to vacuum or oil.
